I am a graduate student attempting to be ethical by purchasing books rather than downloading them from nefarious sites. My interactions with Glassbox show why others resort to that. I purchased a book (in PDF form) on November 11 and have not been able to access it. After 9 or 10 rounds of interaction with Glassbox “customer service” I am still unable to access it. I found the idea of having to download yet another app annoying, but went along because I needed a book for a paper I was writing two weeks ago. Each customer service interaction yields the same useless advice, which I then had to try 4-5 times to make sure I was not making a mistake. In the last three interactions, I asked for a refund. And although each of those responses elicited assurance that my “permanent” verification code would work, it did not.
Avoid this company like the plague (and avoid purchasing from Boydell & Brewer, which had the poor sense to commit itself to Glassbox).
